Good to know
Common questions
The practical details, without the small print.
Is OptionDrag free?
Yes. OptionDrag is free to use, with no subscription. Support is optional and does not unlock window controls. Optional support opens PayPal’s hosted page; it never unlocks features.
Can I use it with a trackpad?
Primary click-and-drag uses the same bindings as a mouse. A continuous secondary drag depends on your existing trackpad configuration. Two-finger scrolling is not a resize gesture. See trackpad guidance.
Why is Accessibility required?
macOS requires your approval before OptionDrag can move or resize other apps’ windows. You approve this in macOS. OptionDrag does not record your screen or typed content for these gestures. Read the privacy details.
Does closing Settings stop the app?
No. The menu bar control and window gestures remain available. Opening Settings brings the Dock icon back. Choose Quit OptionDrag from its menu to stop the app.
Can I change shortcuts?
Yes. In Settings → Shortcuts, choose the modifier and actions for five mouse buttons. The in-app guide reflects those settings. Mouse and trackpad share these mappings.
Can I exclude an app or pause gestures?
Use Pause in the menu bar for a temporary stop. Add an app in Settings → Exclusions to preserve its own interactions, then remove it when you want OptionDrag to handle it again.
Does Maximize enter fullscreen?
No. Option + left double-click fills the usable desktop, leaving space for the menu bar and Dock. Repeat to restore. Apps may restrict their minimum or maximum window size.
What snapping is available?
Side snapping arranges windows at the left or right edge when enabled. The top edge does not auto-maximize. Double-click Maximize/Restore remains a deliberate alternative.
Which Macs and macOS versions are supported?
The build targets macOS 12 Monterey or later and contains Apple silicon and Intel code. Intel hardware and every supported macOS version have not been physically verified. Monterey on Apple Silicon was accepted by the owner; not every hardware/OS combination has been tested.
Can it start when I log in?
Yes, Launch at Login is an optional app setting. Visiting this website or opening the guide does not enable it.
Will an update keep my Accessibility permission?
The free release uses ad-hoc signing. An update may require Accessibility approval again. Update checks notify you and open the official release page; automatic installation is disabled. No seamless permission-preservation promise is made.
Why does screen sharing sometimes affect smoothness?
Capture-related stutter has been observed during testing, including delayed recovery after sharing stops. The technical cause has not been established. It is tracked separately from normal, non-capture dragging. See smoothness checks.
Where is the download, and must I donate?
See download availability. OptionDrag is completely free, without an email, account or payment. PayPal support is optional and never unlocks features.
