Getting started
From your first launch to your first window move.
Install OptionDrag.
Download the official DMG.
Use the official download link above. This free build is not notarized; follow the security notice above and Apple’s normal approval flow. Open the DMG and drag OptionDrag into Applications.
Open OptionDrag from Applications.
Settings opens with the menu bar control nearby. Use that menu to pause gestures or reopen Settings later.
Approve Accessibility yourself.
Use Set Up Accessibility in the app to open the relevant macOS settings. Turn on OptionDrag in the Accessibility list. If it is missing, the app’s guide explains how to drag its icon into that list.
OptionDrag cannot approve this permission for you. Window gestures do not need Screen Recording permission.
Open Quick Guide.
Choose Quick Guide from the menu bar, the help button in Settings, or the link in Shortcuts. Watch a lesson, then try the local practice area.
Three gestures to remember.
Move
⌥ + left drag
Start inside the window, keep the button held, move, then release.
Resize
⌥ + right drag
Start near the side or corner you want to change.
Maximize / Restore
⌥ + left double-click
Fill the usable desktop. Repeat to return to the previous frame.
These are defaults. If you change the modifier or a button in Shortcuts, follow the current bindings shown by the in-app Quick Guide. Press Esc during a drag to cancel and restore its starting frame.
Watch or try the website illustration ↗Using a MacBook trackpad.
Hold your configured modifier, perform a primary click, keep the click held and move the pointer. Release the click to finish. How you hold or continue a drag depends on your existing macOS trackpad configuration.
Resize requires a continuous secondary click-and-drag with the default binding. A secondary tap, two-finger scrolling or a change in finger count is not enough on its own. OptionDrag does not detect finger counts, add a two-finger-pan resize gesture or change your trackpad settings.
The practice area reports only the local input it receives. Passing a local lesson does not certify that every external app window accepts a gesture.
Keep it close, or out of the way.
Close Settings with the red window button to keep OptionDrag working in the menu bar. Open Settings there to bring back its window and Dock icon. Choose Quit OptionDrag to stop it completely.
Use Pause when another task needs the modifier. Add specific apps to Exclusions for a lasting exception. General includes optional Launch at Login.
Reset Shortcuts restores bindings only. Restore All Default Settings has a confirmation and covers the app-owned settings described in that dialog; it does not reset macOS permissions.
Something not working?
Start with a short check of permission, Pause and Exclusions. No system resets or security workarounds are needed to use this help.
